How do I calculate the plates on each side of a barbell?
Subtract the bar weight from your target weight, divide the remainder by two, then load that amount on each side. Workout Plates does the calculation for you and shows the exact plate combination for both lb and kg equipment.
Does the barbell weight count toward the total weight?
Yes. The displayed total includes the bar and every plate on both sides. A standard Olympic bar is usually 45 lb or 20 kg, while women's Olympic bars are commonly 35 lb or 15 kg.
How are warm-up set weights calculated?
Automatic warm-ups begin with the empty bar and progress through percentages of your working weight. Heavier working sets receive more warm-up steps. You can also switch to custom mode and set your own progression.
Can I calculate barbell plates in pounds and kilograms?
Yes. Switch between lb and kg at any time. Your one-rep max converts automatically, and the available bars and plate sizes update for the selected unit.
What if my gym does not have every plate size?
Open Plate Inventory and enter the pairs available to you. The calculator finds the closest load you can build without exceeding the target and tells you when your inventory limits the result.
